Clear drains start with knowing what is in the pipe

Many homes around Baltimore still drain through original cast iron or clay pipe. Over the decades those lines collect grease and scale, crack, sag or let tree roots in. A clog that keeps coming back is usually a sign of one of those, not bad luck. That is why we pair drain cleaning with a camera when a problem repeats.

Once we can see the line, the choice between cleaning, jetting, a section repair or a full replacement becomes clear, and you get the price before we start.

How we approach it

Find the cause, then fix the line

Running a snake through a drain will open most clogs, but it will not tell you why the line clogged. When a backup repeats or the main line is involved, we look before we decide. Camera footage shows the condition of the pipe, and you can see it for yourself. Then we choose the fix that will actually hold.

How do I know if the problem is a drain or the main sewer line?

If one fixture is slow, the clog is usually in that drain. If several fixtures back up at once, or water comes up in a basement floor drain or tub when you run the washer, the main line is the likely problem. We can confirm with a camera.

They do different jobs. A snake punches through a clog and is fine for many household drains. Hydrojetting scours the whole pipe wall, which is better for grease, scale and roots in main lines. We recommend jetting when we see buildup that would bring the clog back.

Not always. Many sewer problems can be cleared or repaired without digging. When a section is broken or collapsed, the camera tells us exactly where it is, so we can dig in one spot instead of trenching the whole line. We explain the options and the price first.

Yes. Roots find small cracks and joints in older clay and cast iron pipe, grow inside and catch everything that flows past. Over time they can split the pipe. Jetting can clear them, but a badly damaged section usually needs to be repaired or replaced.
